FIRST ORBITS records the personal accounts of some of the key men and women who served this arena beginning in the late ‘50s, and continuing through the ‘60s and ‘70s—not only for posterity’s sake, but also to serve as a testament to American ingenuity. Many of these space pioneers are now in their seventies, eighties, and even their nineties. Some are no longer with us. The upcoming book, The Rise of Air Force Space Command, will provide readers with a permanent record of these important—and often entertaining and illuminating stories—which will be found nowhere else. This website serves to be a resource for that upcoming book as well as a historical reference to this important time in American history.
Born of black world sweat and intellect, space operations and surveillance took root.
